Marty Olsen in Accident

We at STO want to wish Marty Olsen a speedy recovery! (Past rally attendees may remember Marty, who has been a rally volunteer and vendor.) Marty was rear-ended in Cody, Wyoming on Wednesday, May 16 while on an extended ride from Wisconsin, to the west coast and back. I have no details on the accident or the extent of Marty’s injuries. According to his son, Marty is in ICU, but he is improving daily, and doctors expect a full recovery.

Im justin martys son i have been updating all the forums and websites on martys behalf. he has had such a strong will and desire to get better all the doctors tell me that. and i can see everyday how much he improves.

Marty is now home from the hospital, and posted the following on his facebook wall:

On May 16th I was in a motorcycle accident in Cody, Wyoming.
I sustained multiple injuries, including a fractured elbow, a gash to my head, fractured orbital eye socket, multiple fractures to my pelvis, 12 broken ribs, along with some bruising and road rash. At least he was wearing full safety gear, with the helmet taking the brunt of the impact. It did save my Life!

Now I am finding what it is like to be in a wheel chair for 3 months. All I can say is I am taking it 1 day at a time. Learning how to get around in a wheel chair sure makes you think how nice it is to have 2 legs to walk on. I get tired very easy and have a hard time holding onto a gallon of milk with my good arm.
One nap a day is almost a must, some days it’s 2 naps. Bad nerve in my right leg is giving me the most pain. I wake up in the middle of the night for a pain pill luckily 45 minutes after pain pill I can go back to sleep most nights.

On July 22 Marty posted on Facebook that he has up and down days and nights, but is getting better. He’s starting to put some weight on his right leg, which he has not used in over 2 months. He has been in a wheelchair or in bed 24/7. He said, “You never relies how nice it is until you do not have it. The freedom of walking!”

For those of you who know Marty and have wondered how he's doing - he posted on Facebook that he got to drive today, for the first time since his accident May 16.
